There were 6,002 federal weapons convictions in FY 2015, a drop of 5.8 percent from 6,373 recorded in FY 2014.
This decrease continues an almost unbroken ten year slide during which weapons convictions have fallen 34.8 percent, according to the latest case-by-case information obtained by TRAC from the Justice Department under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA).
The greatest number of weapons convictions on a per capita basis was found in the Southern District of Alabama (Mobile) with 111.5 convictions per million people, more than five times the national rate of 19.1 convictions per million. In second place was the Western District of Tennessee (Memphis) with 80 convictions per million, followed by the Western District of Missouri (Kansas City) with 60 convictions per million population.
