There were 27,588 new civil court suits filed in federal district courts during the month of April 2013, up 14.9 percent from March.
Contributing significantly to this increase were over 1,500 filings in the Eastern District of Louisiana (New Orleans) under the Oil Pollution Act, 33 USC 2701, presumably related to the Deepwater Horizon oil spill.
