Between 1999 and 2009, US immigration officials more than doubled the yearly detention of noncitizens from 146,760 to 369,483 individuals. As a result, noncitizens have become the fastest growing incarcerated population,and US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) now manages the largest prison system in the United States......[citing TRAC research].
