October saw a record monthly number of Mexican nationals removed, reflecting an increasing trend of immigration judges issuing deportation orders for the group of immigrants, a Syracuse University data research group said Friday.
Syracuse University's Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse said deportation orders for Mexicans have been on the rise, with immigration judges ordering more than 7,000 Mexican nationals to be deported last month, marking the "highest monthly number in more than a decade."
"In fact, last month more deportations were ordered for Mexicans than for any other nationality group," TRAC said.
TRAC said the increase in deportations showed not only that immigration judges were deciding more cases involving Mexican nationals but that there is a growing proportion of Mexican immigrants being deported instead of being allowed to stay in the U.S.
Last month, 10,944 closed cases involved Mexican nationals, TRAC said, adding that of those cases, 66% were deported. That's roughly 20% above a national average of 46%, it said.
