An additional 1.6 million asylum-seekers are awaiting hearings in their cases, according to the Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse at Syracuse University. “These are not people who have snuck into the country," said Mario Russell, executive director of the Center for Migration Studies. "They are people who have been given permission to have their cases heard.” |
