ICE Detainer Requests Were Associated With Lower Medicaid And SNAP Enrollment Among Eligible Adults, 2011–19

We used data regarding the number of detainer requests issued in each county and year from the Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse. The clearinghouse acquires records regarding administrative immigration actions, expenditures, and other functions of the federal government through Freedom of Information Act requests.Using the count data, we classified detainer requests per 100,000 county residents into quartiles. Quartiles were used to address a nonlinear association between detainer requests and program participation. We calculated separate quartiles for each year because of the large differences in the total number and distribution of requests issued by year.......[Citing TRAC data and reports].
