ICE Arresting More Detained Noncitizens, Report Shows
By Elliot Weld

The report released Friday by the Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse said people arrested by ICE had increased from 27% to 37% of the detainee population throughout fiscal year 2024. The share of detainees arrested by CBP, meanwhile, fell to 63%, down from the beginning of fiscal year 2024 when it was at 73%, the report said. The number of people in ICE's Alternative to Detention program has fallen to 174,676 as of Aug. 10, down from a peak number of enrollees of 378,000 in December 2022, according to the report. The report said about 59% of the people held in detention by ICE have no criminal record, and many others have only minor offenses such as traffic violations.
