In 2023 alone, more than 3,400 immigration cases were filed by people who listed Allegheny County addresses on their notices to appear in court, according to data compiled by the Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse at Syracuse University. That is one of the first forms of paperwork a person receives after entering the country.
The number of new cases filed last year was nearly triple the 1,203 cases with Allegheny County addresses filed in 2022.
As of the end of May this year, 848 cases already have been filed in the county.
