Record backlogs in Miami's immigration courts illustrate a crisis in the asylum system

U.S. immigration courts are dealing with a record backlog of asylum casesand the worst is in Miami, where almost a tenth of the nation’s 3 million cases are currently being heard. About 261,000 cases of migrants placed in removal proceedings are pending in the Miami court — the largest docket in the country — according to government data compiled by Syracuse University’s Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse.
