A year into crisis, Tukwila church struggles as 500 asylum-seekers face winter

As of September 2023, there are at least more than 2 million pending asylum applications in the United States. Last year, the average backlog wait time from case filing to hearing before an immigration court judge was about 4 years, according to Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse at Syracuse University.
