During the years that this study took place, US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) reported apprehensions of 851,508 migrants in the
Southwest Border Sector in fiscal year (FY) 2019 (compared to 396,579 in FY 2018), and US Citizenship
and Immigration Services reported credible fear claims for 105,439 migrants in FY 2019 (compared to 22,065 in FY 2018) which is the mechanism for migrants to seek asylum in the US.....[Citing TRAC data and research].
