A recent analysis found that federal prosecutions and convictions for drug-related crimes, particularly those involving methamphetamines and fentanyl, are on the rise under the Biden administration after record lows under the prior administration. This is because federal prosecutors have shifted their focus from offenses involving marijuana to offenses involving controlled substances such as methamphetamines and fentanyl. In 2018, fentanyl-related convictions were rare, with only 63 being reported.
