Detention bed crunch forces ICE to limit arrests of serious criminals
By Stephen Dinan

The Biden administration has been reluctant to use beds for ICE’s interior arrests, which went from a high of 55,000 during the Trump years to as low as 13,000 near the start of the Biden administration, according to data from the Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse. The current capacity is funded for 34,000 beds, but only about 31,500 beds were in use in late November.
