As more migrant families seek asylum at US border, Arizona nonprofits meet with Sinema on solutions

After bottoming out at 13,258 in February 2021, shortly after President Joe Biden took office, the number of people held in immigration centers has gone up to 22,886 in July, according to the Syracuse University's Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse. Additionally, the number of migrants placed into Alternatives to Detention has increased three and half times in that same time period. In Arizona, the number of migrants released into the community and monitored under this program increased from 1,156 in February 2021 to 24,352, according to TRAC.
