According to the U.S. Department of Justice, in 2021 as few as 7,285 people were granted asylum. However, that number jumped to 14,548 in the first month of 2022. According to Syracuse University's Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse, this is indicative of the Biden administration's approach to processing asylum seekers.
