By Daniel Gonzalez, Arizona Republic and Maria Clark, The American South

There were 19,041 people being held in immigration detention centers as of May 13, according to ICE data obtained by Syracuse University's Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse. That is a 34% increase from the 14,195 immigrants in ICE detention during the final days of the Trump administration, but far below the 50,922 people in ICE detention in September 2019 under the height of the Trump administration, according to the TRAC data.
