According to Syracuse University's Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse, the average bail bond price in asylum cases in the last fiscal stood at $10,000, up from around $2,000 in 2005. After thousands of dollars and countless hours in courts, most of these immigrants have not yet been able to secure asylum. Permission to work and make a living is provided, but social benefits remain a distant dream. |
