Under 8 U.S. Code 1324, “Bringing in and harboring certain aliens,” those who provide refuge or encourage illegal immigrants to enter the United States can be arrested and face five years to life behind bars.
This law makes it a crime to harbor or encourage illegal immigrants to come to the United States.
In 2018, according to the Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse at Syracuse University, 4,532 people were prosecuted under this law, up 26 percent from 2013.
