Working with Parents and Children Separated at the Border: Examining the Impact of the Zero Tolerance Policy and beyond

In 2005, under the George W. Bush administration, Operation Streamline was enacted. The policy demanded the criminal prosecution of unauthorized immigrants who were either entering the country for the first time or reentering, including people with little or no criminal record and first-time migrants (HRW2018). Between 2005 and 2013, immigration cases prosecuted in the federal court system increased 159% (VIJ2018), with the highest amount of prosecutions being implemented between 2009 and 2014, during the Obama era.....citing TRAC data and reports.
