About 22 percent fewer unaccompanied minors had lawyers in New York’s immigration courts in fiscal year 2017, compared to fiscal years 2014-2016, according to data from the transactional records access clearinghouse at Syracuse University. That percentage is likely lower this year, considering it includes children separated from their parents at the U.S. border.
