In May, nearly a month after instituting his department's "zero-tolerance" policy, Sessions also announced he would send 35 other immigration prosecutors, as well as 18 immigration judges, to the Southwest border to handle the increased workload from the new policy.
The number of cases pending before an immigration court stands at more than 692,000, according to the latest statistics compiled by Syracuse University's Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse.
