Immigrants who have representation in court are more likely to win their asylum claims, according to government records analyzed by the Transactional Records Clearinghouse at Syracuse University. Immigrants who are kept in detention are less likely to have a lawyer and are more likely to be ordered deported than those who are released on parole or bond, according to the records.
