Justice Department data show that the Eastern District of Missouri already leads the nation in cases where carjacking is the lead charge, with 13 new cases in fiscal year 2017, according to the Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse at Syracuse University. The Middle District of Florida had 11 and the Detroit area had nine. There were 165 new carjacking prosecutions in federal court in fiscal year 2017, the highest in at least 20 years, the clearinghouse says. |
