In its analysis of US data earlier this year, the Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse TRAC) at Syracuse University, a data research organization, found that the Trump Administration sharply decreased the number of immigrants granted discretionary relief from deportation (relief usually granted based on strong ties to the US)
during the first five months of 2017. During those months, discretionary closures of deportation cases precipitously dropped to fewer than 100 per month from an average of around 2,400 per month during the same five-month period in 2016.
