In February, Sheriff Steve Harkins told the Idaho Mountain Express that his office does not comment on federal activities, citing concern for the safety of the agents involved.
Though local statistics aren’t available, ICE maintains a presence in the region, contracting with Elmore County to house detainees at its jail in Mountain Home. Some 235 have been held there in the past year, according to the most recent available statistics from the Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse, a database run by Syracuse University.
