Between 2014 and 2016, local Texas jails declined exactly 18 requests, without warrants, from immigration authorities to hold prisoners whose cases had already been resolved. That's 18 out of more than 58,000 requests by Immigration and Customs Enforcement, which didn't even bother to pick up almost 23,000 of the people they asked to be detained. And that's only in Texas, according to a massive data set compiled by the Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse at Syracuse University. |
