Last February, the DOJ swore in nine immigration judges to immigration courts in New Jersey, New York and Texas courts in a hiring push by the agency.
It appears that the agency is continuing with its hiring push, which may help lessen the burden of the overloaded immigration courts.
A report issued last month by the Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse — which revealed that the backlog of immigration cases had hit a record-breaking high of more than 500,000 — said that there weren’t enough immigration judges to handle the growing load.
