By Daniel E. Chand, Kent University, William D. Schreckhise, University of Arkansas and Marianne L. Bowers, University of California, San Diego

We are particularly interested in applicants from three Central American countries: Guatemala, Honduras, and El Salvador. Starting in 2012 and reaching a culmination during the summer of 2014, a surge of many unaccompanied minors from these countries arrived at the United States - Mexico border seeking asylum. We use as an independent variable in our study the percentage of cases heard by the judge where the applicants are represented by an attorney........[citing TRAC research].
