As border arrests rise, shelters become crossroads
By Gustavo Solis

President Barack Obama ordered removed more undocumented immigrants than any other president in U.S. history, according to data from the Department of Homeland Security. In fiscal year 2008, the first year Obama was elected, the backlog of pending cases in immigration court was 186,000. In 2015, that number was 456,000. California accounts for the highest number of backlogged cases with 90,600, according to data from the Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse at Syracuse University, which tracks and analyzes data on a variety of topics including immigration.
