According to Justice Department data analyzed by the Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse (TRAC), immigration prosecutions “reached
an all-time high” in FY 2013 with 97,384 (53,789 for “illegal entry” and 37,346 for “illegal re-entry”). This marks an increase of 367 percent over the number of prosecutions 10 years earlier.
Between FY 2005-2012, a “total of 208,939 people were processed through Operation Streamline,” which represents 45 percent of the 463,051 immigration-
related prosecutions in Southwest border districts during this time period.
More broadly, regardless of whether they were identified through Secure Communities or
not, the overwhelming majority of people receiving ICE detainers while in the custody of
local, state, and federal law-enforcement officials had no criminal record.....[Citing TRAC research].
