State and federal revenue departments likely will be delighted to see envelopes from Johnson County flowing in after Wednesday’s deadline to file income taxes.
That’s because Johnson County has the highest adjusted gross income of any county in the state, according to figures released last week by TRAC — Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse, based on 2013 records released by the Internal Revenue Service.
Still, the average adjusted gross income paid in Johnson County — at $89,245 on 2013 income tax returns — is a far cry from Teton County, Wyo., the nation’s richest county, with an adjusted gross income average of $296,778. Teton County is home to portions of Yellowstone National Park and Shoshone National Forest.
Gooding County, Idaho, has the lowest AGI, with an average of $15,379.
