Nine of 10 children who have appeared in immigration court without legal representation have been deported since 2005, according to a report by the Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse of Syracuse University.
For children with legal representation, 47 percent were allowed to stay in the country. Judges ordered the removal of children in 28 percent of the cases and entered a voluntary departure in 26 percent of the cases.
