Immigration: Inland help for young Central American migrants
By David Olson

A report issued last month by Syracuse University’s Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse found that only 32 percent of unaccompanied minors in immigration court are represented by an attorney. The clearinghouse found a wide gap between the outcome of cases in which children had attorneys and cases when they didn’t. Seventy-three percent of children with attorneys were allowed to stay in the United States, but only 15 percent of those without lawyers were given permission to remain.
