TAMPA — Federal judges in the district that includes Naples are among the most overworked in the nation, according to a recently released report by researchers at Syracuse University.
The Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse analyzed federal judicial caseloads, both by numbers and complexity, and concluded that judges in the Middle District of Florida have nearly twice the workload of judges in the Eastern District of Michigan.
The district ranked 11th of 94 federal judicial districts in what the report refers to as weighted caseloads for judges, including both criminal and civil filings. Statistics from federal court administration show the time it takes for a civil case to go from filing to trial has risen by more than a third in the last five years.
