Each year US immigration enforcement agencies release vast amounts of data in the form of yearbooks and reports. These data include information about asylum that is sometimes broken down by nationality. However, there has not yet
been any academic study that considers Mexican asylum in particular. This thesis relies on data from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), the Department of Justice(DOJ), and their sub-agencies, as well as information gained through the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), and by Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse Immigration (TRAC), which is an immigration enforcement data tracking
center at Syracuse University.
