New Jersey county jails received at least 5,844 detainer requests from ICE between October 2011 and August 2013, according to figures by compiled by the Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse at Syracuse University. Nearly two-thirds of those requests were lodged against individuals who had not been convicted of any offense, according to the data.
The Bergen County Jail received at least 470 detainer requests in fiscal years 2012 and 2013, excluding three months in 2013, while the Passaic County Jail received at least 480 detainer requests during the same two-year period, according to data.
