The number of tax suits filed in federal district courts dropped nearly 10 percent last month following an overall drop — 32.4 percent — since 2009, according to a new report by Syracuse University’s Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse. Of the 68 districts in the analysis, the Central District of California handled the most suits, at 8. The district was in the spotlight earlier this month when state Sen. Ron Calderon was charged with tax fraud as well as bribery and money laundering. The Southern District of California had the largest increase in the number of suits, rising 200 percent since last year. The Western District of Texas, the Northern District of California and the Middle District of Florida ranked second, with four suits out of the top 10 districts, the analysis showed.
