While the official aim of the CBP is to guard all borders, the distribution of border enforcement efforts are resources remain highly uneven. From 1980 to 2005, the actual number of Border Patrol agents stationed at the US-Canadian border decreased, while the number of agents stationed at the Mexican border significantly increased (TRAC 2006).
