Nineteen of Utah's counties rank among the top 50 of the nation's 3000-plus counties when it comes to the average number of exemptions claimed for each federal tax return. And according to Tribune reporter Lesley Mitchell, Utah has more counties in the top 50 than any other state, with Texas a distant second. The article was based on county-by-county income data from the IRS that the Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse makes available via its public web site in an annual report on the IRS.
