A police sergeant in
the Minneapolis Police Department had told Charles Laszewski about
a drifter named Mike Green who was buying guns and then making
illegal sales to teenagers on the street. Green, he was told,
had been questioned by the Department and his case had then been
referred for prosecution to the U.S. Attorney. Nothing happened.
When Laszewski checked the data maintained by TRAC he discovered
that the record of the federal prosecutors in the district was
not impressive. On May 7, 1997, the Pioneer Press ran his investigation
on the front page.
