In July, TRAC produced its second of three reports using monthly
Department of Justice data. This report focuses on the Immigration
and Naturalization Service and their enforcement and staffing
practices since Sept. 11th. TRAC's Special Advisory illustrated
the tremendous disparity between border agents on the northern
and southern U.S. borders. Also, the Special Advisory reports
seeming inconsistencies between rhetoric and action on the part
of the Bush administration's Homeland Security group in
their efforts
to address the problem of northern border security.
The Special Advisory was picked up by a number of news organizations
around the U.S. and Canada. Among the articles to appear in papers
around the country were pieces by Julia Malone of Cox News Service,
Diane Smith of Knight-Ridder, and Jon Bonné of MSNBC.
