TRAC's on-line catalogue offers databases on diskettes. Each product consists of raw and summary data and rankings and percentages designed to allow users to analyze, isolate and compare information, rates and trends in selected issue areas.


1: Federal law enforcement actions: the nationwide core data

1A:This database provides summary performance records of 90 U.S. Attorneys on seven categories of criminal matters in the United States from 1980 through 1994. Data for each U.S. Attorney can be compared to other districts, and to national figures. Annual census information is incorporated for comparison purposes over time.

The categories covered are:

1B: A Staffing Supplement diskette allows comparisons of staff levels within and among districts by year. It includes per capita staffing rates with district rankings; numbers of assistant U.S. Attorneys; and referrals, prosecutions declined, prosecutions and convictions on a per-attorney basis.


2: Law enforcement by particular federal district

2A: This database provides detailed information about every criminal matter and case handled by any single U.S. Attorney's office during fiscal year 1994 - as many as 10,000 records. The matters are identified by date, source of referral and statute involved (though the government has withheld names and docket numbers). Each action may be individually scrutinized.

The database permits analysis of such questions as:

Information includes referrals, prosecutions declined, prosecutions and convictions, with 24 fields of detail, such as: investigative agency source, charge information, disposition type and reason , identity of prosecutor and judge handling the matter, agency priority and activity dates.

2B: Reports for the same district are also available for fiscal year 1992 and 1993.

3: Official corruption

This database covers all matters that were referred to all federal prosecutors in 1994 in which federal, state or local officials were accused of corruption. (ie, in procuring goods; in operating federal grant, loan and other benefit programs; and in performance of duty.)

The product offers two kinds of information:

Summary data , so that the user can compare the overall performance of different U.S. Attorneys and the national averages. For example:

Detailed information about each individual corruption action, including lead charge and Justice Department category code.

Special Feature: Federal, state and local employee numbers in each district are included to allow comparisons of workload and other activities.


4: Customized databases

4A: Federal law enforcement

TRAC  will compile tailor-made databases to meet your own specifications. TRAC's  data would allow a search, for example, of all enforcement activity related to a specific law or program area, or all activity by a particular investigative agency over a specified period of time. 4B: Federal personnel

TRAC   has developed a massive database on federal civilian personnel from 1975 to 1994. Information includes: employee name, agency, occupation, salary, post-of-duty, GS-level and supervisory status. For a listing of available agencies,  
click here. TRAC   can develop tailor-made extracts to meet your specifications. For example, TRAC 's data would allow building a diskette data set of all personnel of U.S. Attorney offices thoughout the United States, or selecting all Internal Revenue Service personnel for a given state, county or city.
