(25 Sep 2012)
There were 23,221 new civil court suits filed in federal district courts during the month of August 2012, up 5.7 percent from July.
The Southern District of West Virginia (Charleston) led the nation in the largest number of new filings relative to its population. The number of personal injury - product liability suits in that district has recently jumped, with over a thousand separate suits filed last month. This contributed to making personal injury - product liability lawsuits the largest specific category of civil litigation filed in the nation as a whole during August.
