Federal weapons prosecutions remain constant
By Lee Williams

The number of federal weapons prosecutions for 2012 remained about the same as they were for 2002, but according to data released Wednesday by the Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse (TRAC), a non-partisan research organization associated with Syracuse University, there were significant ups and downs in the intervening years. TRAC also point out that the total number of federal weapons cases was dwarfed by state and local prosecutions. TRAC has a great reputation for accuracy. They break the data down by year and by president. They also illustrate some of the problems defining what type of crime constitutes a federal weapons violation.
