Another deformalized system, called administrative removal, applies to all noncitizens except for lawful permanent residents. It authorizes administrative immigration officials to completely avoid formal immigration court proceedings and to simply order people deported due to the conviction of an "aggravated felony". As you consider this mechanism, recall that aggravated felonies often have included very minor offenses, and -- strangely -- even some misdemeanors.
