Federal judges in N.C. strictest

RALEIGH – Federal judicial districts of central and eastern North Carolina have become the toughest in the nation for criminal defendants, with the longest prison sentences in the federal system and rates of prosecution that are climbing higher, according to statistics compiled by Syracuse University researchers.
