Freedom of Information Act Lawsuits Increase More Than 25 Percent In One Year
By Ken Black

Court challenges for federal agencies accused of withholding information that should be legally released under the Freedom of Information Act increased 27 percent from fiscal year 2010 to fiscal year 2011, a watchdog group known as Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse said. The group records each case involving the Freedom of Information Act, the agencies involved and where in the country they take place, among other things. The co-director of the organization, David Burnham, said a great deal of analysis still needs to take place in order to determine what accounted for the recent increase. However, Burnham said his group was surprised to see such a big jump over the course of one year.
