Seidman: One-size-fits-all in Florida ICE detentions
By Carrie Seidman

The Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse (TRAC) at Syracuse University determined the majority of unauthorized individuals detained by ICE in Florida have been arrested for nonviolent offenses, such as traffic offenses, DUIs and possession of drugs. But even nonviolent misdemeanors — like driving without a license (which undocumented residents can’t legally obtain in this state) or possessing marijuana — are categorized as “criminal” offenses in Florida, making pretty much anyone with any charge a candidate for deportation.
