Tent Court on the Border: Migrants Face a Judge on a Screen and a Lawyer They Can’t See
By Alicia A. Caldwell

In November, arrests of foreigners caught crossing the border illegally dropped for the sixth straight month after reaching a 13-year-high of more than 132,000 arrests in May. Since MPP’s start last January, more than 56,000 asylum seekers have been sent back to Mexico to wait for their hearings. Through the end of November, more than 15,000 of those people have been ordered deported and 117 have been granted asylum or some other relief, according to government data compiled by the Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse at Syracuse University.
