Detention of Immigrant Children
By Julie M. Linton, MD, FAAP, Marsha Griffin, MD, FAAP, and Alan J. Shapiro, MD, FAAP

By facilitating access to legal representation through screening and referral, pediatricians may ultimately increase access to health care once the immigrant child has lawful status. Furthermore, pediatricians may provide key evidence used by attorneys to assist in children’s immigration cases. By some estimates, nearly 45% of unaccompanied children in deportation proceedings do not have attorneys in immigration court
